About Joe G. Shoulak

I enjoy boiling down information into clear, engaging, and attractive presentations using information graphics, illustrations and design. But more broadly, I really have a passion for storytelling.

Currently, I’m a UX/UI designer for JPMorgan Chase. In that role, I also create illustrations and graphics. Previously, I worked as graphics editor in The Wall Street Journal newsroom.

I’ve also worked as senior illustrator at XPLANE in Portland, Oregon. My colleagues and I provided creative print and online solutions for clients including Fortune 500 companies.

My work for over 15 years at the San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner earned numerous awards from the Society of News Design and an Excellence in Journalism award from the Society of Professional Journalists of Northern California. A collection of my graphics over the past 30 years is here.

My greatest strength is in using Adobe Illustrator, but I’m also experienced with Photoshop, designing web pages (UX/UI) using Sketch and Figma, PowerPoint and Keynote for presentations, Excel, WordPress, InDesign, Prezi and Poser.

Throughout my career I’ve also maintained my own part-time freelance business, Joe Shoulak Graphics. However, in 2016 I put that freelance business on hiatus and am not accepting new projects.
